Vol. VII, No. 10 . . . October 1963

SEPTEMBER UNIFORM PRICE $4.03

Dairy farmers will receive a uniform price of $4.03 for September 1963 deliveries of Grade
A milk to handlers under the South Bend-LaPorte-Elkhart, Indiana, milk order. The uniform
price is based upon a butterfat test of 3.5 percent, and will be adjusted by a differential
of 7.2 cents for each one tenth percent that tests vary above or below the 3.5 percent
standard. The minimum price is subject to a 4 cent per hundredweight marketing service de¬
duction, together with the authorized hauling charge. This uniform price is 2 cents above
the August uniform price and 3 cents above the price of a year ago.

PRODUCER RECEIPTS

Daily average producer receipts are up 1.5 percent from August, but are almost 1 percent
less than a year ago. There has been no noticeable change in the production pattern
because of the dropping of the base excess plan. Perhaps it is too early to analyze the
effect this may have on future production. Daily herd averages have increased 50 pounds
per day over September of 1962, but the decrease of 40 producers on this market has
more than offset this increase per herd.

CLASS I SALES

Class I sales are 2 percent higher than in August, but are almost 3 percent less than
a year ago. Usually the increase of September over August is more than 2 percent. The
ownership of National Milk Company has changed from Pure Milk Association to Hawthorn-
Mellody Farms. No appreciable changes have been noticed in this market as the result
of this transaction, insofar as sales or receipts are concerned.

CLASS I PRICE

The Class I price for the October 1963 delivery period will be $4.40 per hundredweight
for 3.5 percent milk. This price was computed by adding $1.30 per hundredweight to
the basic formula price ($3.12), minus the 2 cent supply-demand adjustment. The
supply-demand adjustment for the November 1963 delivery period will be zero.
